A plan to create jobs and address infrastructure issues in Antrim Township, Franklin County, will receive $2.37 million in state funds, state Senator Judy Ward (R-30) and state Rep. Paul Schemel (R-90) announced today.
As part of the state’s Multimodal Transportation Fund Grant program, 2017 Greenmount Road, LLC will receive the funding for transportation improvements to Interstate 81 access, Mason Dixon Road, and Greenmount Road in Antrim Township to facilitate economic development and remedy existing infrastructure deficiencies in the area’s transportation network.
Senator Ward and Rep. Schemel, who strongly supported the application for the funding, commended 2017 Greenmount Road and Antrim Township for their proactive approach to improving the transportation network in this area, while properly planning for future growth.
“These much-needed infrastructure improvement projects will benefit the region through improved access to Interstate 81 for employers and the creation of more than 280 family-sustaining jobs,” said Senator Ward. “This grant is a strategic investment of state funding that will not only contribute to our local economy but also improve the quality of life for those who live here by diverting heavy truck traffic away from residential areas.”
"This area of Antrim Township has in recent years been a very desirable place to develop commercial and industrial projects,” Rep. Schemel said. “Improving the flow of traffic around this interchange is important not only for the commercial vehicles, but also for the residents of Franklin and
Washington counties who are trying to commute or access stores and services.”
PennDOT evaluates Multimodel Transportation Funding Grants on criteria such as safety benefits, regional economic conditions, the technical and financial feasibility, job creation, energy efficiency, and operational sustainability.
The next round of Multimodal grant applications will open in September 2021. For more information about the program, visit www.penndot.gov
