Schemel’s Town Hall to Focus on Criminal Justice Reform
5/13/2019
WAYNESBORO – State Rep. Paul Schemel (R-Franklin) will address criminal justice reform efforts during a town hall meeting Thursday.

Schemel will talk about initiatives underway in the Legislature, including his bill to change the way statewide appellate court judges are chosen. House Bill 111 would replace partisan judicial elections with a merit selection system.

Schemel will answer questions presented by attendees.

“This is my second of four town hall meetings scheduled for 2019, and I also have a telephone town hall in the works. These events are the best way for me to hear from my neighbors in the 90th District,” Schemel said. “I often hear from people concerned about the fairness of Pennsylvania’s criminal justice system, which, as a lawyer myself, has long been a topic of interest to me.”

The town hall meeting will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16, in Zullinger Community Center at 4569 Buchanan Trail East in Washington Township.

The topics and schedule of Schemel’s upcoming town hall meetings are as follows:

Expanded Nurse Practice, Thursday, Sept. 12, 6:30-7:30 p.m., Waynesboro Hospital, Board Room, 501 E. Main St., Waynesboro.
Universal Preschool, Thursday, Nov. 14, 6:30-7:30 p.m., Cumberland Valley Christian School, 600 Miller St., Chambersburg.

In addition, Schemel plans to host a telephone town hall meeting on Thursday, July 18, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. to provide an update from the Capitol on the proposed 2019-20 state budget.
