HARRISBURG – Rep. Paul Schemel (R-Franklin) today announced that he has been appointed to serve on the House Environmental Resources and Energy, Health, Judiciary, and Labor and Industry committees for the 2019-20 legislative session. Schemel was sworn into office for another term in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives on Jan. 1.

“I was pleased to retain my seats on the Health and Judiciary committees, which do such important work in improving the well-being and safety of Pennsylvania residents,” said Schemel. “I’m also excited to be named to committees that develop legislation that protects our environment and benefits the state’s workforce. I can’t wait to get started.”

The Environmental Resources and Energy Committee is responsible for legislative oversight of 45 different environmental laws, administered by both the Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. The committee addresses legislation involving clean air, land and water; radioactive and other waste disposal; recycling; and more.

The Health Committee focuses on issues such as abortion, disease management, stem cell research, health savings accounts, hospital-acquired infections, Medical Assistance, patient safety, pharmaceutical issues, telemedicine and much more.

The Judiciary Committee focuses on issues and legislation relating to the Judicial Code, the Crimes Code and the Domestic Relations Code. Some of the topics overseen by the committee include identity theft, firearms laws, domestic violence, child abuse laws, state prisons and criminal law.

The Labor and Industry Committee focuses on issues impacting jobs across the state. Legislation the committee deals with includes unemployment compensation, job training, child labor laws, workers’ compensation and the Prevailing Wage Act.
